Nick is introduced to the painting industry in his family business, working alongside his mother, father and brother weekends, evenings, summers and holidays while in middle school and high school.
Nick enrolls in Active Duty Army military service. He enters the service as a mechanic, gets stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC and became airborne qualified (paratrooper). After the events of 9/11 he volunteers for tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Nick returns home, enrolls in college and graduates with a Bachelor Degree in Business w a double minor in 2 forms of accounting.
Nick founds the Nick Slavik Painting & Restoration Company
The firm wins multiple awards for craftsmanship, Victorian mansion restorations. The company grows w the demand for the company’s services.
Ask a Painter is founded. It is a weekly live show discussing the life of a Master Craftsperson and Trades Entrepreneurship.
Nick joins PCA – Painting Contractors Association, a 140 year old non-profit serving to build a more professional industry. This is also the year that Nick begins to grow and professionalize his business.
Nick grows the people side of his business, recruiting from some of the brightest minds from outside of the industry and introducing them to the trades via an industry leading Apprenticeship Program. The company also built an innovative leadership team consisting of Project Managers, Estimators and Coordinators.
Nick is named PCA Craftsman of the Year – an honor given to only once per year for the +350k craftspeople in North America.
Creation of the #SlavikShop, the HQ, offices, finishing facility for NSPRC. Nick created innovative training modules for his Apprenticeship program within the facility.
Nick is elected to the PCA Board of Directors, and is eventually elected Chairman of the Board. Nick led the non-profit through operational leadership change, introduced a series of in person events, co-created industry leading business training programs and saw a +25% increase in membership during his tenure.
Nick innovates the process side of his business, consistently harnessing technology, artificial intelligence and humanistic processes to find innovative ways to professionalize the trades.
