After High School, he joined the Army as a mechanic and a paratrooper. Shortly after the events of September 11th, 2001, Nick volunteered for two tours of duty overseas: the first in Afghanistan & the second in Iraq.

After his service he attended college, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business management and with a double minor of tax accounting and managerial accounting.

Nick and his wife Tootse have four children. They recently sold their fully restored 1917 Craftsman home and built an innovative, energy efficient home on their farm – using the new home as a proving grounds for the simplest, most innovative finishing procedures.

He has created one of the most in-depth educational pieces in the areas of estimating, production management, hiring, budgeting, marketing, financial systems, processes, SOP’s and leadership. He has also compiled a wealth of knowledge about coating science – which he uses to create fail-proof, simple finishing systems for his own business as well as others across the country.

Nick has been a Master Craftsperson for more than 33 years. His company has been awarded more than 17 National awards for craftsmanship, including massive restorations of Victorian mansions. He has created a rigorous Apprenticeship program where he finds, trains, inspires and mentors young people in his craft. Nick is currently the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the PCA – the Painting Contractors Association. The PCA is a 140 year old nonprofit whose mission is to build better contractors.

My family loves the outdoors – the more wild the better. We find a deep sense of calm and peace exploring our natural world. As far as beauty goes, we can make your home beautiful, but we’ll never do better than nature.
